Five stages. About ninety days.

How a drink goes from a one-line brief to a pallet, in about 90 days.

The usual shape of a projectDAY 000 / 91

Every project is quoted with its own schedule at kickoff. Formulation complexity, ingredient availability and revision rounds move it.

The five stages

Walk the process.

Each stage is handled by the in-house team: food scientists, designers and operations specialists. You never juggle vendors.

01Week 1
Beverage idea

The brief, and the guardrails.

A kickoff call with the whole cross-functional team. Target customer, flavor direction, function, calorie ceiling, certifications. Organic? Under 100 calories? Say so here and the formula is built around it.

What comes out of it
  • A written formulation brief with your guardrails
  • Positioning and target consumer
  • Timeline, budget and sample schedule
02Weeks 1 to 2
Ingredient sourcing

Ingredients from vendors we already trust.

Food scientists source every component from respected U.S. suppliers, inside your guardrails, with recommendations on trending ingredients and the flavor profiles your customers reach for. Organic, Kosher, Gluten-Free or Non-GMO: it can be sourced.

What comes out of it
  • An ingredient list with suppliers and specs
  • Functional dosing recommendations
  • Cost per unit estimate for the formula
03Weeks 3 to 9
Formulation

Three rounds until it tastes like your drink.

The lab builds the first sample from the brief. You taste it, you give notes, the team refines taste, texture and stability. Up to three rounds, then an approved, production-ready recipe.

What comes out of it
  • An approved, production-ready formula you own
  • Sensory notes from every round
  • Shelf-stability and processing requirements
04Weeks 5 to 10, alongside formulation
Design

A label that earns the second look.

The design team leads a discussion on packaging and brand identity: graphic style, type, the consumer you are reaching. It starts with your inspiration, the product call-outs and a look at the competitor landscape. Your designer then builds logo and label concepts for primary and secondary packaging, three rounds, with experience in FDA labeling guidelines.

What comes out of it
  • Logo and label concepts, three rounds
  • Layflat artwork: romance copy, nutrition panel, company info
  • Final print-ready files and printer specs
05Weeks 10 to 13
Production

The right bottle, the right co-packer.

Packaging is chosen for the formula and the processing it needs for shelf life, then matched with compatible label types and caps. The operations team finds co-packers that can produce it, based on your location, formula and packaging.

What comes out of it
  • Packaging spec: container, closure, label stock
  • Co-packer shortlist with costs, lead times and MOQs
  • Production plan for the first run
Why one team

Five vendors, or one lab.

What launching a drink looks like when you piece it together yourself, next to what the lab handles.

FAQ

Answers before the first call.

A food scientist answers the phone, not a call center. Or send the drink idea through the form and get a reply within one business day.

Getting started

An idea is enough. The team refines the concept, creates the formula, designs the packaging and secures the supply chain. If you have a home recipe, that works too: the lab converts it into a formula that can be produced at scale.

Five: ideation, ingredient sourcing, formulation, design and production. Each stage is handled by the in-house team of food scientists, designers and operations specialists, so you never coordinate separate vendors.

Beverage startups, founders, established brands adding a line, private label companies, restaurants, supplement brands and investors. First product or tenth, the technical work is the same.

Meetings run by video or phone at your convenience. Bench samples ship by UPS or FedEx to any location worldwide, and the co-packer is chosen with your geography in mind.

A manufacturer produces a finished formula. Drink Labs creates the formula, sources the ingredients, builds the brand, designs the packaging and connects you with the right manufacturer, and you keep ownership of all of it.

Formulation

Energy drinks, functional beverages, sports and electrolyte drinks, protein drinks, flavored waters, teas, coffees, juices, kombucha, carbonated beverages, RTD drinks, hard seltzers, cocktails, alcoholic beverages, powders and enhancers. Every formula is built for your brand goals and audience.

Yes. Every formula is built from scratch around your vision, audience, flavor, nutrition goals and positioning. There are no one-size-fits-all base recipes.

Yes. Trusted suppliers across the United States cover Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, Gluten-Free, plant-based, functional and clean-label ingredients, chosen for your product goals, regulations and market.

No. A general direction such as tropical, citrus-forward or berry blend is plenty. The formulation team develops and refines flavor profiles through the rounds until the drink matches your vision.

Yes. Sweetening systems are chosen to hit low-calorie, reduced-sugar, sugar-free and zero-sugar targets while keeping the taste you want.

The formula is built with certified ingredients and documented so your certification can be pursued. Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, gluten-free, plant-based and clean-label ingredients are sourced from trusted U.S. suppliers.

Yes. A homemade recipe, an existing formula or a product that needs work can be optimized for taste, functionality, shelf stability, scalability and manufacturing readiness while keeping the original character.

Timeline, ownership, production

On average 60 to 90 days from idea to finished product. Formulation complexity, ingredient availability, testing and revision rounds move that in either direction, and a customized timeline is set during the initial consultation.

Yes. Clients own 100% of their intellectual property, including the formula and every design asset created for them.

Packaging is selected for the formula, the processing it needs for shelf life, your branding and your distribution plan: bottle or can, cap, label material and components that protect product quality and look right on the shelf.

Through a network of trusted beverage manufacturers and co-packers, matched on formula, packaging format, production volume, location and budget. The team also reviews minimum order quantities, timelines and costs with you.

Yes. Logo creation, label design, brand identity, packaging concepts and production-ready artwork, built to stand out on retail shelves and online marketplaces.

Design and packaging

Production-ready artwork and print files in the formats your label printer needs, plus the design assets that support a smooth production run.

Yes. Logo, labels and packaging can be refreshed or fully redesigned while keeping the brand identity your customers already know.

The designers work on primary and secondary packaging with experience in FDA labeling guidelines, and lay out the nutrition panel and required copy on the final artwork.

Production

A production plan: final packaging specs, a recommended manufacturing partner, estimated production costs, lead times and minimum order quantities.

You do not need one. Once the formula is ready, the team connects you with qualified co-packers suited to your product and volume.
